Full name: Harry James Potter
Nicknames: The Boy Who Lived (or Lied, if you ask Rita Skeeter and Cornelius Fudge), The Chosen One, Potty-we-Potter (granted upon him by Peeves the Poltergeist)
Age: 16
Year: 6
Pets (if any): A snowy owl named Hedwig, given to him as a birthday present by Hogwarts Gamekeeper, Hagrid.
House Preference: Gryffindor
Blood Lines: Half-Blood. Father, James, was a pureblood and mother, Lily, was a Muggleborn.
Background: Harry James Potter was born on July 31, 1980 to James and Lily Potter. His parents were members of the Order of the Phoenix, an organization dedicated to the fight against Voldemort and his followers. One night, during an job interview for Hogwarts, Sybil Trelawney made a prophecy about a boy born at the end of the seventh month that would have the ability to defeat Voldemort. A Death Eater named Severus Snape overheard only part of the prophecy, but her relayed it to his master nonetheless. Voldemort had two boys to choose from, Harry Potter and Neville Longbottom. Voldemort decided that Harry, who was a half-blood like him, posed the biggest threat. The Potter's now had to go into hiding.
Sirius Black, James Potter's best friend and godfather to Harry, was chosen to be secret keeper to hide their location. At the last moment, out of fear that he would confess it if he was caught, it was changed to another friend, Peter Pettigrew. They thought that Voldemort would never try and get information out of him. Trouble was, Pettigrew went to Voldemort himself and willingly gave up his secret. So, on October 31, 1981, Lord Voldemort entered Godric's Hollow with plans to exterminate the Potter's. He took the lives of James and Lily without thought or regret, but something unexpected happened when he turned his wand on Harry. His own killing curse rebounded and crippled him, sending him into hiding and away from Harry. The boy was now an orphan, and under the guidance of Albus Dumbledore, was sent to live with his mother sister. This blood tie was to provide protection for the one-year-old.
Harry spent the next ten years neglected and abused at the hand of his Aunt, Uncle and buffoon of a cousin, Dudley. They never told him the real story of his parent's death, saying they had died in a car crash. They asserted that there was no such thing as magic, and if Harry never knew about, perhaps they could stamp it out of him. This did not prevent Harry's magical skill from appearing every so often like re-growing all of his hair overnight (following a disaster cut by his aunt), or causing a pane of glass to disappear from a snake exhibit at the zoo. It was then that he learned he could talk to snakes.
It wasn't long after that Harry learned of his magical origins. A series of letters from a place called Hogwarts pursued Harry and the Dursley's across the countryside, until Hagrid caught up with them in a tumble-down cabin in the middle of nowhere. Hagrid was the same person who have delivered him to the Dursley's. Now he told Harry the true story of his parents demise and brought Harry back into the magical world. Hagrid took him school shopping in Diagon Alley, where he purchased a wand from Ollivander's. After many attempts, a wand finally chose him. Funnily enough, the wand had a sister and it had belonged to Voldemort.
Harry was dropped off at King's Cross, utterly confused at how to find Platform 9 ¾. It was then that he had his first encounter with the Weasley family. Molly, the mother, was kind enough to show him how to get onto the platform, and Ron sat with him on the train. They met a girl named Hermione Granger who was looking for Neville Longbottom's toad. Harry had his first taste of Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans and was utterly overwhelmed that this was his new world.
Upon arrival at Hogwarts, he was herded into small boats with the other first years and caught his first glimpse of the castle. He was blown away. He was very nervous about the sorting process, and after pleading with the Sorting Hat not to put him in Slytherin, he was made a member of the Gryffindor house. His first year at Hogwarts turned out to be more eventful than he ever would have expected. He became the youngest member of a Hogwarts Quidditch team in a century and was constantly ridiculed in his Potions class by Professor Snape. He discovered the mirror of Erised and saw his parents for the first time. He became fast friends with Ron Weasley and, after defeating a troll together, Hermione Granger. He also uncovered a plot to steal the Sorcerer's Stone, an object that produced the elixir of life. He assumed that Snape was behind it, but it turned out to be his stuttering, weak, Defense Against the Dark instructor, Professor Quirrel. That was not the only surprise. Voldemort was actually behind the plot and Harry was able to escape, saving the stone and preventing the Dark Lord's return.
Harry's second year was just as adventurous. He was confronted by a house elf named Dobby, who did everything he could to keep Harry away from Hogwarts. He missed the train to school, so flew there with Ron Weasley in his father's Ford Anglia. Shortly after the term began, Harry discovered a petrified Mrs. Norris (the caretaker's cat) and a note on the wall saying that the Chamber of Secrets had been opened. He and his friends learned that the Chamber was a legendary room said to have been built by Salazar Slytherin when Hogwarts first opened. It was believed to hold a monster that would kill all the Muggleborn's in the school. Similar events started to occur at the school, and soon many people believe that Harry was the Heir of Slytherin, responsible for the attacks. It didn't help that he inadvertently showed of his parstletounge skills at a meeting of the Dueling Club. He found a diary that claimed Hagrid had opened the Chamber and when Hagrid was subsequently arrested, Harry was sent into the forest to meet a giant and hungry spider named Aragog. Hermione was the victim of petrification, but provided Harry with the final clue to the puzzle. When Ginny, Ron's sister was taken into the Chamber, Harry and Ron followed. Harry discovered that the diary was the source of all the mayhem; that it contained a memory of a young Voldemort who was intent on returning to power. Harry managed to defeat him a third time, along with the monstrous Basilisk, and save Ginny's life.
The summer before his third year, Harry learned of a vicious murderer that had escaped from the wizarding prison, Azkaban. It was Sirius Black, and he was believed to be responsible for the death's of the Potter's and thirteen Muggles. It was believed that
Sirius was after Harry, so Dementor's were sent to guard Hogwarts castle. Because the events of Harry's past were so violent, his reaction to the Dementor's was much worse than normal. This facilitated a relationship between Harry and the new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, Lupin, who had been a friend of James Potter. Lupin taught Harry how to produce a Patronus, a charm that would ward off a Dementor attack. After a couple of near misses with Sirius Black and the death of Ron's rat, Scabbers, Harry finally came face to face with the man he had worried about all year. It turns out that Sirius was not guilty at all, and Ron's rat was not truly a rat. It was Peter Pettigrew, the man that betrayed Harry's parents to Voldemort. Unfortunately, he escaped before they could clear Sirius' name. The night then turned to utter chaos when Professor Lupin, a werewolf, was overcome by the full moon. Sirius and Harry were attacked by hundreds of Dementor's and only when Harry went back in time to save Sirius, did he learn that it was his Patronus that drove them away. Sirius was able to escape into the night, and Harry now had a godfather, the closest thing to real family he'd ever known.
Harry's fourth year would prove to be his biggest challenge yet. Harry's name was called as a fourth Triwizard champion, something that was completely unheard of. He was forced to compete in three difficult and dangerous tasks along with Cedric Diggory, Viktor Krum and Fleur Delacour. Hogwarts also welcomed a new DADA teacher, Mad-Eye Moody, and ex-auror. As fate would have it, that is not who he was at all. He was a Death Eater by the name of Barty Crouch, Jr. who was working with Voldemort to capture Harry. At the end of the third task, Harry and Cedric planned to share the Hogwarts victory, grasping the Triwizard cup together. Little did they know, the cup was a portkey that transported them both right into Voldemort's waiting arms. Cedric was killed on the spot and with the help of Harry's blood, Lord Voldemort was able to return to full power. However, he was still unable to kill Harry. The twin cores of their wands saved Harry this time, and allowed him to see shadows his parents and Cedric, who wanted his body returned to his parents. Harry was able to get to the portkey, escaping certain death and alerting Dumbledore to Voldemort's restoration.
The death of Cedric Diggory weight heavily upon Harry and it, along with Voldemort tormented his dreams. He returned to Hogwarts to find that he was considered a fraud and a loony by most of the wizarding community. People, especially at the Ministry of Magic, refused to believe that Voldemort had returned. Because of this, and the support Dumbledore gave Harry, the Ministry was keeping a very close eye on the school. When Dumbledore fled half-way through the year, Harry knew that things would only get worse. Abigail Williams could never stand up to the pressures of being headmaster and even though the Order was active again, Harry knew that something bad was in store. He managed to scrape his way through O.W.L.s and was almost looking forward to getting away from Hogwarts. He then learned that all students were to attend a Ministry run summer camp. He knew he wanted no part of it, so he hid out with Sirius all summer at Number 12 Grimmauld Place, the headquarters of the Order. It had once belonged to the Black family, who had taken every precaution in keeping the home very private. The Ministry had not chance of discovering his whereabouts. It turned out he was right about the camp being no good. Another wave of grief stuck him in the death of Cho Chang, with whom he had shared his first kiss.
Harry is now about to enter his sixth year at Hogwarts, a task that is daunting if only from an educational point of view. He is going to be a NEWT student and it is time to decide what he is going to do with the rest of his life. The threat of Lord Voldemort is ever present, and Harry is not sure how long the Death Eaters will remain at bay if the wizarding community is not truly alerted to their presence.
Personality: Harry is a conflicted person. Growing up with his aunt and uncle, he was never allowed confidence or freedom. However, upon learning that he was a wizard, he finally understood that he was meant for something more. He is now secure in his abilities, but is not one to boast his talents in front of his peers. If anything, he's still a little unsure of himself, especially when Hermione Granger displays her wealth of knowledge. Bless her. Harry is a fierce friend and will stand up for everyone he cares about. He also tends to hold a grudge when someone crosses him, ie. Snape and Malfoy. However, he shows great loyalty to those he loves and trusts.
Harry is widely known for being very brave, a quality that not only got him placed in Gryffindor, but allowed him to pull Gryffindor's sword out of the Sorting Hat. This bravery and desire to protect his friends sometimes gets him into trouble. Harry also has a quick temper and is one to bottle up his anger until it bursts out of him. He is starting to learn that this wears heavily on his friends never actually improving a bad situation. On occasion, he reveals a quick-witted sense of humor and he knows how to lighten up dark times. Harry also has a hard time dealing with the burden that has been placed on him. He is not sure if he is strong enough to take on Lord Voldemort, always worrying that his friends might get hurt in the process.
Appearance: Harry has a slight build and stands at about 5'9' tall. He has black hair, quite a lot of it, that persistently refused to appear well groomed. A few pieces insist in stand up awkwardly at the back of his head. He has bright green eyes which he inherited from his mother, and they are decorated with round, black, wire-rimmed glasses. In his forehead, just above his left eyebrow, is a thin, lightning bolt- shaped scar. This marks the spot where he was touched with the Killing Curse cast by Voldemort. It is really Harry's most distinguishing feature and it brings him quite a lot of attention; good and bad. His posture is generally good, and he walks with a stride that is both confident and modest.
As Harry was raised in the Muggle world, he has an extensive collection of Muggle clothing. Most of what he owned in his younger years were hand-me-downs from his oversized cousin, Dudley. These articles of clothing often made Harry look even smaller than he actually is. His wizarding wears include a set of dress robes, picked out by Molly Weasley, are almost the same bright green color as his eyes. On days when he is not in his Hogwarts uniform, he usually dons a t-shirt, jeans and a pair of old trainers.
What makes your character different: He is the only known person to have survived the Killing Curse. He has also managed to 'defeat' and escape from Voldemort on three or more occasions. He is a parstletongue, meaning he can talk to snakes and he is an incredibly talented seeker on the Gryffindor Quidditch team.
What does your character thinks about Dumbledore? Harry thinks that Albus Dumbledore is the greatest wizard that has ever lived. He trusts him completely and hopes that Dumbledore will help him find a way to defeat Voldemort.
Sixth Years and up: What classes are you taking? N.E.W.T. level Potions, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Transfiguration, Charms, Herbology
Special Requests:[b/] None.
Sample: A fire was crackling merrily in the hearth, casting shadows over the tables and chairs of the Gryffindor common room. It was empty of activity, except for a small group of third years half-heartedly playing a game of Gobstones. Only one of them looked up momentarily as the portrait swung open and one student entered. Harry was exhausted, having just finished a grueling Quidditch practice that seemed to last for days. He ran a hand through his messy, black hair regretting it slightly as it was damp with sweat. They had run late again, and Harry had not even begun his homework. He chanced a glance at the clock and saw that it was already quarter-past ten. He strode across the room towards the staircase, wanting nothing more then to collapse onto his four-poster bed and fall asleep. However, a fifteen inch essay for Potions stood in the way of Harry and a good night's sleep.
Judging by how much energy it took him to actually reach the boy's dormitory, writing this essay was certainly going to be a struggle. Potions was his least favorite class, but is was not the subject matter he disliked. Harry really was interested in the art of brewing a potion, though he usually felt his efforts were wasted. Nothing he ever did was appreciated by Severus Snape. Harry despised Professor Snape more than anyone at Hogwarts, Draco Malfoy running a close second. It seemed that Snape's goal was to find a new way to torment Harry in every class. Today, it was this essay about the properties of valerian root and how it was utilized in potion-making.
Upon opening the door to the dormitory, he found most of his school mates had already gone to bed. Making a silent gesture of greeting to Dean, who was still up reading, Harry crossed the room quietly. He found his schoolbag lying on his bed right where he had tossed it a few hours before, a quill and a few crumpled pieces of parchment strewn across the sheets. He bent down to his trunk, taking out a clean shirt, a reasonably clean pair of jeans and the set of mismatched socks crafted by Dobby. He changed quickly, left his Quidditch robes in a heap on the floor and leapt up onto his bed. A strong urge to procrastinate swept over him as he removed the potions book from his bag. He could tell from the boisterous snores coming from the bed next to him that Ron was sound asleep. Even if Ron had been awake, Harry knew he was not the ideal person to seek for help with potions.
He picked up the stray quill and tried his best to flatten out one of the blank pieces of parchment. Flicking through the pages of his potions book and twirling the quill between his fingertips, he simply could not bring himself to write a single word. He had known going into it that N.E.W.T. level potions would not be a walk in the park, but if he ever wanted to become an Auror he had to do the very best he could. He sat staring blankly at an indistinct page in his potions book, trying to force himself to write. It was no use. The only person who could help him was Hermione and he hadn't seen her since dinner. Maybe she wasn't in bed yet or was sitting up like Dean. It was his best bet at getting the assignment done, so he shoved the parchment into the folds of the book and slid off his bed.
He covered the length of the room in five large steps, closed the door behind him and headed for the girl's dormitory. He hadn't even had time to set his right foot down when he found himself sliding down towards the common room. What had been a staircase moments before was now a slide. Harry had forgotten that boys were not allowed access to the girl's dorm. What a stupid rule, he thought, as he slid out onto the common room floor. He could hear a couple of the third years snickering from their secluded corner. Harry got to his feet, shook of the remnants of embarrassment and plopped himself down in a particularly squishy chair by the fire. He may not have accomplished his goal, but at least no one in the common room was snoring like a foghorn.
