THE CHARACTER
Book Character, or Original: Original
Full Name: Elspeth Giselle Addams
Nicknames: Elsie (Her father's nickname for her. She greatly dislikes it, but allows only her father to use it.).
Age: Elspeth is 16 years of age, and born on March 11, 1979
Year: 6th
Pets (if any): None
House: Ravenclaw, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Slytherine
Blood Lines: Elspeth's father, Leroy Joseph Addams, is a half-blooded wizard, of British ancestry. He attended Hogwarts when he was a teenager, where he excelled at Defence Against the Dark Arts. After graduation, Leroy gained a well-paying job at the Ministry of Magic in the United States as an Auror. Her mother, Giselle Rozalia Fekete, was born a muggle in Hungary. She and Leroy wed in 1978. Giselle then died while giving birth to Elspeth in 1979. For her own protection, Leroy never revealed to her that he was a wizard.
Background: Elspeth was born in New York City, USA, on the 11th of March, 1979. She never knew her mother, for she died in childbirth. Her father, Leroy, named her Elspeth Giselle Addams, to honor his wife's memory. Her father and her mother's father, Lukkas Fekete helped raise her.
Elspeth was unaware of her father's wizarding blood until her 10 birthday, when her father decided to reveal who she really was. After finding out her true identity, Elspeth and her father moved to England so she could attend Hogwarts. She hates Hogwarts, but is forced to go by her father.
A gifted Soprano, Elspeth has been singing since she was a young girl. She has also acted, and has studied dance for 4 years. She was first introduced to musical theatre when her father took her to see the musical 'CATS' on Broadway when she was young. Ever since that night, she knew she was going to perform on Broadway or the London Stage.
Personality: Elspeth is a quiet, shy girl. She feels uncomfortable with strangers. But when given time to open up, she can prove to be one of the sweetest, most caring people one could ever meet.
Elspeth can also be over-sensitive at times, overreacting about trivial things. Because of the fact that she never knew her mother, she longs for someone who could be a mother-figure to her. As a result, she can be very clingy to her friends, and can be overbearing at times.
After 7 years, she still finds it hard to accept the fact that she is a witch. She isn't very enthusiastic about witchcraft; infact, she really doesn't want to be at Hogwarts at all. All Elspeth wants is to be a performer, and she feels an education at Hogwarts is unneccessary.
Appearance: Elspeth is tall and slender; the body of a dancer. She has long brown hair, and has pale, freckle-less skin. She has large, very dark brown eyes that always seem to be searching for something. She has full lips, and a thin nose. She speaks with an American accent.
Because of her father's high-paying job, she can afford some of the nicest clothing you can imagine; Prada, Versace, Oscar de la Renta, etc. Having grown up in New York City, Elspeth always knows what's in, and what's out when it comes to fashion.
What makes your character different: She truly does not want to be at Hogwarts, but unfortunately, she is. She is forced to go by her father.
Deep down, all she is is lonely, and longs for a mother-figure in her life.
What does your character thinks about Dumbledore: Elspeth doesn't know how she should feel about him. She doesn't care for the wizarding world, but has heard great stories about him. In the end, she has a great respect for him, and nothing more.
Third Years to Fifth Years: N/A
Sixth Years and up: DADA, Charms, Herbology, Divination, Atronomy
Special Requests: None
Sample:
A tall, slender young girl of 11 walked through the freezing rain, her teeth chattering. It felt as though she would never reach Hogwarts. She looked around at the other first years; they were all drenched to the bone, just like she. The girl shivered in the dark night. If she knew before that she would have to go though this, she would have refused to get off the train.
Just when she thought she could walk no longer, the first years reached the school. As she entered the castle, a much needed warmth entered her body. She shook the rain from her hair, and gave thanks for the torches lining the corridors. A pair of giant oak doors then opened, revealing the Great Hall of Hogwarts. What she saw was totally unexpected.
A giant Hall, with walls that reached the sky, lay before her. The only light were the thousands of candles floating in midair. She had never seen anything so beautiful in her life. The slender girl, along with the other first years, were led to a table, where they were to be seated until it came time for the 'Sorting'. As names were being called, she used this opportunity to survey the staff of Hogwarts. She looked up to the staff table. Sitting at the very centre was a very old man with a long, grey beard. Dumbledore. That had to be him. Who else could it be? Her father had told her about him. Told her stories of his great triumphs. Her father held such a great respect for that man.
"Addams, Elspeth!"
Her thought were interrupted by the calling of her name. She felt a sudden pang of nerves.
This was it. This was the moment.
As Elspeth sat down in the chair and the Sorting Hat was placed on her head, she prayed there was some mistake. She didn't belong here. She knew she didn't. Even if she really was a witch, she knew she wasn't meant to be here. She didn't want to wave a wand around, shouting nonsense words. She wanted to be a performer on Broadway, for God's sake!
So what was she doing in this chair?
