THE CHARACTER
Book Character, or Original: Original.
Full Name: \ Dakota Rae Langley
Nicknames: Kota/Kody. When she was younger, none of her siblings or friends could say "Dakota" so it was shortened to "Kota". As she got older, Kota seemed to childish and she demanded that her relatives and friends call her Kody.
Age: 16.
Year: 6th.
Pets : A tabby cat named Alamo. They also have a family barn owl named Pharaoh.
House: Gryffindor, Slytherin/ Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff.
Blood Lines: A Half-blood. Her mother, Lia Rae Stephens Langley, was a Half-blood due to Dakota’s maternal grandmother being a “Pureblood” and her maternal grandfather being a Muggle. Her father, Lucas Tyler Langley, was a Muggleborn wizard.
Background:
Dakota lived a relatively normal childhood in a small village on the Irish coastline, the town of Bray. Her parents had chosen a Muggle neighborhood in the hopes that their children would live a well-rounded life and be able to look upon both halves of their heritage with no prejudice. When she was seven, her maternal grandfather, Thomas Luther Stephens, was killed in an automobile accident and her grandmother, Rae-Lynn Fallon Stephens, moved in with them. This led to a rather mixed up household, as Dakota’s mother Lia had just given birth to Dakota’s twin brothers, Luther Stephen and Lucas Dylan. A year later, Lia Langley gave birth to a baby girl they named Naomi Louise.
Dakota’s maternal grandmother’s family had had nothing to do with them, a direct result of Rae-Lynn’s marriage to Thomas Stephens. After Dakota’s grandfather was killed, suddenly that part of the family that didn’t have much to do with them began to visit. Dakota’s great-aunt Hillary left Dakota her journals and other assorted papers. Things began to look up.
When Dakota neared the age of ten, nothing seemed to be happening. She had grown up with the knowledge that her parents were witches and wizards respectively and it was assumed their children would take after them. As she had not yet begun to show signs of any magical abilities at all, her parents began to worry that they would once again lose favor in the eyes of their “Pureblood” half. This showed Dakota that her parents didn’t truly care about her really, only cared about what she could do for their family. When her letter from Hogwarts arrived the only person who wasn’t relieved was Dakota.
At the age of twelve, she was diagnosed with a heart disease called arrhythmia that deals with the regular beating of the hearts. When told that this could lead to serious heart diseases and even sudden death, her parents immediately panicked, confessing to their daughter that they truly did love her but didn’t know how to show it. They did all they could, setting up a strict diet for their daughter which caused her to become slightly underweight but otherwise help her maintain herself and keep her body in order. She did all the doctors asked of her and in time, the threat of a sudden death went away. The disease still remains in her and she follows the daily exercise and diet that had been set for her.
Personality: Dakota is fun-loving, carefree, and lively, with an innocent outlook on life. She may be a tad bit naïve at times but she keeps her head about her. She doesn’t have very much common sense but what she lacks in that compartment, she makes up for in intelligence. She’s modest and humble but at times can seem to be stuck-up. This is due to her incredible shyness. Once past all that, she’s a very kind and caring person who would give up anything for one of her friends.
No person is perfect and Dakota more than shows that. Her major downfall is her inability to admit that she is wrong and her inability to say no. She has a short fuse and is easily angered. Her attention span is short but she manages to retain a good deal of information in a short amount of time.
Appearance:
Dakota is full-blooded Irish and shows that in her looks. She has curling red locks that are more auburn than red. Her eyes are a pure emerald green encased with thick, dark eyelashes. Her skin is a creamy ivory color. She is a short 5 foot 3 and on the tiny side from the strict diet her parents have her on.
She has been known to dislike attention being drawn to her so she dresses the part. When not in uniform, her Muggle outfits consist mostly of slightly too large tee-shirts and jeans that “just” fit her and are not too tight. Contrary to all that, it is her walk that gets the most attention drawn to her. She is a naturally bubbly person and there is always a spring in her step and an enthusiastic sway of her hips that show that. When she is excited or just extremely happy , she talks really fast and when she’s nervous, she resorts to her childhood embarrassment: she stutters profusely.
What makes your character different: Dakota goes all out. When she believes in something, she is stubborn enough to stick to it, even when everyone else thinks she is wrong, and she will do anything to prove herself and her ideals. She goes with determination against the flow and doesn’t care what most people think.
What does your character thinks about Dumbledore: Her first thoughts of what he had been like was that he was a strange man with equally strange behaviors. As she got older, she realized that his ideals were much like her own and she began to idealize him.
Third Years to Fifth Years: (What are the electives your character is taking? Or what classes did you take when in these years?)
Sixth Years and up: DADA, Charms, Potions, Herbology, Transfiguration, Astronomy, History of Magic, Ancient Runes, Arithmancy
Special Requests:

Dakota looked down at her mother from the crimson engine, an unreadable expression on her face. Inside, her heart was pounding wildly in anticipation, a First Years eager determination and excitement taking over her. She knew that she should be feeling some type of sadness for leaving her parents and brothers and sister behind, but all she could think about was the journey ahead, a journey she would be taking on alone, something that she hadn’t been able to do in a family of seven. All these years of being held captive in a world of strict rules and watchful eyes, and finally she was off on her own.
Her heart stuttered and then started again. If her mother was standing beside her, her face would have become deeply alarmed. Things like this always happened to Dakota. But right now she just set it aside, titling it as extreme excitement. She made her way from the window, not really bothered enough to see if her mother stayed to wave her off. Right now, she knew that she had better get a move on and get a compartment, certain that if she didn’t, she wouldn’t be able to find a seat.
Spotting an empty compartment, she sighed heavily in relief and slid into the seat, making sure that her trunk was lodge tightly in the space above her head and her kitten, a tabby she had named Alamo, was locked tightly in her cage and comfortable. Not moments after she had settled herself in the compartment, the door opened.
“Oh, hello. Sorry, can I sit here? Everywhere else is getting full and we didn’t know anybody… Are you a First Year, too?” a surprisingly clear male voice spoke from the tall, thin boy standing in the compartment door.
Dakota nodded and in came the thin boy, closely followed by a slightly chubby girl with dark brown hair. She looked them over and put a brave smile on her face. She wasn’t no good at social situations such as this but these were future classmates and she wanted to start off on a foot, be it the right one or not.
“My name’s Dakota Langley. My friend’s call me Kody,” she began confidently…
